Das Raser

A Love Letter to 90s Arcade Trash

Ever since I first played Autobahn Raser back in the 90s, I dreamed of one thing:
driving through my own hometown in a racing game.

Back then, building games wasn’t an option for me. Today, with Unreal Engine at my fingertips, it finally is.

And while I could make everything look shiny, realistic, and next-gen… that would miss the point.
The magic of those old games wasn’t about cutting-edge graphics or flawless physics.
It was about their unique vibe:

  • chunky low-poly cars,
  • mirrored textures,
  • stiff handling,
  • outrageous crashes,
  • and the feeling that you were playing something slightly broken – but in the best possible way.

That’s the spirit I want to capture.

Das Raser is not a reboot, not a remake – it’s a tribute.
A deliberate recreation of all the things that looked “bad” by today’s standards, but which gave those games their soul back then.

I’m taking everything we loved about them – the fake brands, the trashy cars, the neon billboards, the Autobahn chaos – and reimagining it in Unreal Engine 4. Not polished. Not perfect. But full of charm.

This is my way of finally bringing that childhood dream to life.
A game that lets you blast through familiar streets, laugh at ridiculous car names, and feel the nostalgia of an era when racing was more about fun than realism.

Welcome to Das Raser
where low-poly never dies, and trash is king. 🚗💨
